I’m not really sure how many people actually own Zune players, but if you do, then you might be interested in knowing how to convert YouTube videos into the Zune format? Actually, a client was telling me about this a few days back and he told me his process for converting videos, which was long and complicated.
First, he used a desktop application to download the videos in FLV format from YouTube, then used another desktop app to convert the videos into MP4 format and finally used the Zune software to sync the converted videos onto his Zune. The annoying part was using those programs, setting the options, etc, etc.
Convert YouTube Videos to Zune Format Quickly
Here’s the method I suggested to him and which seems to be a lot faster! Instead of using any desktop apps, you can use come cool web apps that do everything for you, including downloading the videos from YouTube and then converting them to MP4 format.
Using convertdirect.com you can simply paste the URL of the YouTube video you want to download and then choose the format to convert to:
As you can see from above, you can also use the MP4 format for your iPod or PSP, so it’s also a great way to download YouTube videos and watch them on your iPod and PSP.
If for some reason, the above process does not work, you can still get the videos onto your Zune player in other ways. Recently I wrote a guest post on another blog titled 18 ways to download videos from the Internet, read that in order to rip the YouTube videos into either AVI, MOV, MP4, or WMV format.
Whatever format your download the video to, you need to convert it into MP4 format for the Zune software to recognize it. You can use a program called Flv to video Converter, which converts between just about every video format known to man.
Finally, once all of your videos are in MP4 format, you need to copy them to the My Documents/My Videos folder and start up the Zune software. Zune checks that directory automatically; drag them into the sync list of the Zune Player and click on Start Sync.
That’s it! Using the first method, it takes no time! You can now happily watch YouTube videos on your Zune player! Enjoy!
